What if Katsu Kaishu, a very important historical figure of the Bakumatsu, had had an apprentice named Tetsuma who secretly put together a band of disgruntled former samurai to take down Katsu a decade later, in search of the Shogunate's hidden fortunes? That's the premise of this episode. The "Beni-Aoi" is the group out to take revenge on Katsu, and they do so by kidnapping his daughter.

Kenshin and crew of course rescue her. But when the police show up, alerted to the situation by not one but two separate anonymous tips, Kenshin - speaking here to the Chief - knows that something isn't what it seems. Proof once again that Kenshin is not just a master swordsman, he's also a master tactician.
