One of the most appealing things about Battle Athletes to me was Akari's ongoing struggle against her own lack of self-confidence. In the opening, though, she is exhibiting the full-out joy she experiences when performing at her best. No competitiveness, no self-consciousness, just exhilaration at running fast with the wind in her face.
