Kenshin is seriously outraged by Raijuta Isurugi, leader of the Shinko Ryu, for the pointless bloodshed and injuries he has caused. Kenshin has taken it upon himself to prevent anyone else from being killed. Raijuta has just unleashed an incredible volley of attacks on Kenshin, who sustains this wound to his arm. Raijuta absolutely crows in delight at having wounded the infamous Hitokiri Battousai... but Kenshin deflates the moment with a remarkable show of disdain. "You're happy about this little scratch?" he sneers.

Kenshin's frightening edges show up most often when he's ultra angry. But the manga version of this scene is positively chilling, as he follows with "Then you're going to love the real blood" and licks the wound suggestively. And proceeds to show Raijuta just what he means. Were there any doubt that Kenshin had once been a coldblooded assassin, that manga scene removes it. Utterly.
