Saiunkoku Monogatari is a thoroughly marvelous show that starts out looking suspiciously like Fushigi Yuugi and develops into something much, much more. Kou Shuurei is a young lady who is utterly determined to become an "official" but is the first woman to even attempt it. She also is utterly oblivious to the fact that every other male in the kingdom is head over heels with her at one time or another. Shi Seiran has grown up in the same home with her and has become her protector and "big brother." Of course, he's much more than that, as it happens.
